In the crowded workshop of Starport Gamma’s Gunsmith Guild, an argument raged louder than the test blasters in the firing range. The topic? Stubby space guns. The room was split in two—on one side, the engineers who made them, and on the other, the mercenaries who had to use them.
“They’re too short!” bellowed Grix, slamming one of the tiny blasters onto the table. The weapon barely made a sound, its stubby barrel wobbling like it didn’t belong there. “I can’t look intimidating holding something that looks like a child’s toy!”
The lead engineer, Sprock, adjusted his goggles and jabbed a finger at Grix. “Stubby guns are practical. You don’t need to look scary; you need to shoot things. Compact design equals convenience!”
“Convenient?” Grix retorted. “This thing barely clears my belt! And when I fired it, the recoil almost knocked me over! Where’s the balance?”
Sprock snorted. “Balance? You’re supposed to fire in close quarters, not pose for a holo-magazine! Do you want a gun that works or a fashion accessory?”
Another mercenary chimed in, waving a stubby gun with obvious disdain. “My target laughed at me! Laughed! Right before I missed because this thing has no range.”
“That’s user error,” Sprock snapped. “Stubby guns are meant for precision in tight spaces. You were probably trying to hit something a mile away.”
“It’s a gun! It should work at any range!” Grix shouted back.
The debate spiraled into chaos, with accusations flying like stray plasma bolts. Sprock finally threw up his hands. “Fine! Want longer guns? Carry them through a crowded starship hallway and tell me how that works out!”
As the room fell silent, Grix muttered, “Still feels like I’m holding a hairdryer.”
“Then aim better,” Sprock grinned.
