Description
“The Raccoon Glove Debacle”
Back in the early days of glove-making, things weren’t as straightforward as they are now. Before focusing on human hands, the brilliant-but-baffling inventor, Walter Thimbleton, decided to test his designs on the most dexterous creatures he could think of: raccoons.
Walter figured, “If a glove can survive a raccoon’s grabby little paws, it’ll be indestructible for humans.” So, he set up a workshop filled with raccoons and began crafting. His first prototype was a disaster. The raccoons slipped out of the gloves in seconds, tossing them aside like last night’s leftovers. The second pair was reinforced with tiny buckles. The raccoons chewed through them before Walter could even take notes.
Determined to succeed, Walter tried everything: softer materials, tighter fits, even tiny finger padding. One particularly ambitious design featured miniature straps. This only seemed to delight the raccoons, who promptly turned the gloves into slingshots, pelting Walter with pebbles and bits of leftover stitching.
The final straw came when Walter, exhausted but optimistic, unveiled his Mark V Raccoon-Proof Glove. It had reinforced stitching, adjustable straps, and a snug fit. For a moment, the raccoons seemed impressed—they even wore the gloves without complaint. But the moment Walter turned his back, they used their gloved paws to unlock their enclosure, steal his lunch, and disappear into the woods.
Walter sighed, wiping raccoon paw prints from his notes. “Humans,” he muttered, “are way less trouble.”
From that day forward, glove-makers focused solely on human hands. The raccoons, however, remain a whispered legend among glove designers—a cautionary tale about overcomplicating a simple task.
