The farmhouse at Hollow Fields stood alone, surrounded by endless miles of barren land. Travelers passing through often spoke of its eerie stillness—no animals, no wind, not even the sound of rustling leaves. Locals swore it wasn’t abandoned, though no one ever saw anyone leave or enter. At night, a faint yellow glow seeped from its cracked windows, and some claimed they heard muffled voices—like whispers caught in a jar.

One evening, a storm rolled in, stranding a curious traveler named Eli nearby. He approached the house, seeking shelter. The closer he got, the heavier the air seemed to press on his chest. The wooden steps groaned under his weight, but the door opened without resistance. Inside, the air was damp and carried a faint metallic scent. Dust hung like a veil, muting the dim yellow light from an old oil lamp flickering in the corner.

The farmhouse appeared frozen in time. A table was set for dinner, with plates of food that looked fresh but smelled like rot. Eli called out, but his voice seemed to dissolve into the silence. Then, he saw it: a figure sitting at the head of the table, motionless. Its face was obscured by shadows, but its hands—thin, pale, and unnaturally long—rested on the table.

Eli backed away, but the floorboards betrayed him with a loud creak. The figure turned its head slowly, revealing hollow eyes that seemed to stretch endlessly into darkness. From the walls, more faces emerged, twisted and wailing, as if the house itself was alive and filled with anguish.

Eli fled into the storm, but the whispers followed. When he looked back, the farmhouse was gone. Only the sound of the wind, carrying faint cries, remained.
